Cross-train, share feedback, and help employees set their own goals to uncover hidden strengths and increase engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Prioritize fit and collaboration over pure skill. \u201cThe best system won\u2019t help you if your team is working in silos or constantly stepping on each other\u2019s toes,\u201d Brad said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mike added that this principle also extends to partners: Knowing what roles your team <em>and<\/em> external collaborators play keeps everything aligned and expectations realistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tactical takeaway:<\/strong> Build clarity and ownership across your org chart. Ensure everyone knows not just their job\u2014but who they rely on, and who relies on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lever-2-your-customers\">Lever 2: Your Customers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many business owners default to \u201cwe just need more leads.\u201d But according to our panelists, that\u2019s a recipe for burnout\u2014not efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What Brad and Mike recommend instead:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Get specific about your niche.<\/strong> \u201cThe riches are in the niches,\u201d Brad noted. If you\u2019re chasing every customer, you\u2019re spreading your team and systems thin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Be ready to say no.<\/strong> Taking on a client outside your sweet spot may lead to higher costs, missed expectations, and unhappy customers on both sides.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Know your compliance risks.<\/strong> Mike pointed out that adding customers across states or growing your sales volume can trigger tax obligations you didn\u2019t see coming. \u201cOne new hire in another state can create a whole new tax responsibility,\u201d he said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83c\udfaf <strong>Pro tip:<\/strong> Map out which type of firm you\u2019re running: procedural, specialized (\u201cgray hair\u201d), or highly customized (\u201cbrainy\u201d).
